PS5Emu
for Mac.

The Mac build of the open-source ps5 emulator. Native Apple Silicon binary, Metal 3 renderer, no Rosetta. Runs on M2, M3 and M4 chips. Free playstation 5 emulator download — MIT licensed.

Metal 3Native renderer
arm64No Rosetta
~110 MBSingle .dmg

Built natively for Apple Silicon.

The Mac build targets Apple Silicon directly. Where the Windows port talks Vulkan, the Mac port talks Metal 3 to the M-series GPU — no translation layer. Same 624 playable titles as the ps5 emulator for pc; the ps5 emulator ships the library and benchmarks.

Install in four minutes flat.

  1. Pull the Mac build

The PS5 emulator download for Mac is a ~110 MB .dmg from GitHub releases. Verify SHA-256 before mounting.

  2. Install Xcode Command Line Tools

Run xcode-select --install in Terminal. The Mac PS5 emulation core needs Metal shader compilers from the CLT package.

  3. Drag the app to /Applications

Mount the .dmg, drag PS5 Emulator.app into Applications. First launch: right-click → Open → Open to bypass Gatekeeper.

  4. Add your firmware

Firmware not bundled. Place your own dump in ~/Library/Application Support/PS5Emu/firmware — wiki documents the legal extraction.

Unified memory is a structural win on Mac. The PS5 itself runs on GDDR6 shared between CPU and GPU — Apple Silicon's unified pool maps almost 1:1 onto that model, so the emulator ps 5 core never pays the host-to-device copy tax that bites discrete GPU builds.

What ships only on the Mac build.

  • Native arm64 binary. No Rosetta. Compiled directly for Apple Silicon.
  • Metal 3 renderer. MetalFX upscaling for 4K on M3 Pro+.
  • Unified memory path. Skips the CPU↔GPU copy — 8–12% throughput win.
  • Battery-saver profile. Caps framerate at 30 FPS off-charger.
  • DualSense over Bluetooth. macOS pairs DualSense natively — no drivers.
  • ProMotion adaptive sync. 60–120 Hz on ProMotion displays.

Mac-specific FAQ.

Does this PS5 emulator run on Intel Macs?
No. Apple Silicon only — Intel Macs lack Metal 3. For Intel hardware, use the ps5 emulator for pc via Boot Camp.
Why does M3 Max outperform M4 Pro?
M3 Max ships 40 GPU cores; M4 Pro has 20. PS5 emulation is GPU-parallel-bound — raw shader-core count wins.
What about macOS 13 Ventura?
The Mac build refuses to launch on macOS 13 — Metal 3 only ships on macOS 14+. Upgrade or use Windows.
Can I attach an eGPU?
Apple Silicon Macs don't expose eGPU support. The internal GPU is the only renderer — Mac Studio scales highest.
