About PS5Emu — the reference team.

A volunteer engineering team building the canonical open-source PS5 emulator. Two and a half years in, 624 commercial titles playable, MIT licensed, no commercial interests behind the work.

From a fork to 624 playable titles.

PS5Emu started in late 2023 as a clean-room fork of PS4 emulation research. A handful of homebrew engineers — many of them RPCS3 contributors — set out to map the PlayStation 5's RDNA 2 GPU and Zen 2 CPU into a cross-platform runtime. By mid-2024 the proof-of-concept ran Astro's Playroom. Today the same codebase covers most PS5 first-party exclusives.

The team is entirely volunteer — no company, no investor capital, no commercial roadmap. Contributors come from fourteen countries and coordinate on GitHub and Discord. The MIT licence guarantees that any future fork remains free.

Releases ship every Friday with the week's compatibility patches. The ps5 emulator for pc and the ps5 emulator for mac compile from one tree — what improves on one platform usually improves on the other.

Three things we refuse to do.

  • No DRM stripping. The emulator never ships tools that break commercial DRM. Bring firmware and games you legally own.
  • No telemetry. Zero analytics, zero crash-reporting endpoints, zero outbound network calls in the shipped binary.
  • No commercial fork. MIT licensing keeps the project free in perpetuity. Anyone selling a paid "premium" build of this PS5 emulator is reselling work the volunteer team gives away.
